Georgia Backroads Humor

Author checking out rural Georgia roads.

During our travels around Georgia in search of stories, we found many examples of folk humor.  Georgians have a sense of humor, that’s for sure.

I wish we had stopped at the BBQ place up GA 400N where it deadends, but we were on our way to Dahlonega and Gainesville.  The sign said, “Almost famous.  No awards yet.” Now that barbeque would have been worth a taste.

Further down GA State Road 306, we found an interesting looking antique store called “Shack out Back Antiques.”  Great name!

Close by was a small version of a strip mall with a nail salon, massage parlor, “hair designs” parlor (not sure what that is), and of course to complete the package, a US Post Office.

I also wish I could have stopped at the “this and that and what not” variety store.  I’m sure I could have found many a treasure.

But that’s the problem, when you have a destination or two or three to reach before the sun goes down and all these wonderful sights are just distractions but you have to move on.

Georgia backroads are meant to be enjoyed, lingered over, and tasted. Sigh . . .

Another time and another trip and another book. And this time I’ll take photos!

If you have any interesting sites to add to this, please feel free to add a comment.  My comments are just the beginning.
