Introduction  or Why Am I Doing This?

I’m writing a book . . . through Arcadia Press and the History Press on interesting GA Place-Names and the Folklore behind the naming of these places. There are several resource books out about this subject, written in encyclopedic form, but nothing for the casual reader.  Early research proved to me that there is a treasure trove of fascinating material and endless possibilities about Georgia towns, some no longer in existence, with funny names…Doctortown, Enigma, Ebenezer, Hahira, Alapaha, JugTown and the list goes on and on and on.  And each town had an interesting story or side note to tell and I was hooked!

Oh the stories behind these names….and the tangents they’ve led to…and the road trips my husband and I are taking to find photos for the book…and the people and characters we’ve met along the way…I decided I have to blog about this.  So you’ll be getting some sneak previews of the book that’s coming out next summer, 2019.

These are the stories of our road trips.  Purpose: to take photos of the stories I’m including in this fun, fun book and the stories behind the stories as we travel around the state.
